GREENVILLE, NC USA (JUNE 7, 2023) – Global Partnership for Education (GPE) proudly announced the winners of the prestigious 16th Annual GPE Awards at a banquet held at Starlight Cafe on the evening of May 23, 2023. These esteemed awards honor individuals and institutions that have demonstrated exceptional dedication and excellence in their participation in GPE and GPE programs, making a profound impact on their students and partners around the world.
The Austin W. Bunch Teacher of Excellence Award was presented to Elsa Cecilia Ramirez from Universidad Regiomontana for her work in the Global Business class. Ramirez’s helpful nature and commitment to creating meaningful exchanges for both her and her partner students led to her receiving this award.
Blakely Brooks receives the Rosina Chia Teacher of Excellence Award.
The Rosina C. Chia Teacher of Excellence Award, recognized the exceptional achievements of not one, but two of our Global Understanding instructors, Jorge Eduardo Reategui Carrasco from Universidad Continental and Blakely Brooks from East Carolina University. Both Jorge and Blakely have consistently demonstrated the commitment and flexibility necessary to foster an inclusive and nurturing learning environment. Their dedication to creating environments that promoted empathy building and collaboration has earned them the highest admiration from their peers and awards committee.
This year, a new GPE award was established. The GPE Secretariat Award recognizes those individuals in any role that embody the “strive and aspire” philosophy espoused by GPE. The first ever GPE Secretariat award was bestowed upon Eva Mendoza Balmaceda from Universidad Continental. Eva’s dedication to her students, her partners, and the GPE organization are to be exemplified.

The GPE 16 Awards also presented HAN University of Applied Sciences the GPE Meng Fanxi Institution of Excellence Award. Through this award, we applaud HAN’s commitment to providing their students with quality international experiences through GPE programming and other institutional initiatives and collaborations.
